We are already about three months into the year of 2017, which is quite surreal. Part of me feels as though 2017 just began yesterday, while the other half feels like six months have already flown past.
But being that a quarter of the year is already over, I thought it would be a good time to review over my Goodreads reading goal and how my statistics are doing. Of course, I figured it was only necessary to share with the rest of you. And together, we can panic about all of our unread books and continue to drown in our TBRs.
I set my reading challenge for this year to one hundred books. Then eighty. Then fifty. Then back to one hundred. Then back to eighty, only to return back to one hundred. (I was going through some tough times, guys.)
As of today, I have read a total of fifteen books. I would have expected more from myself, being that I had read about twenty-five plus books this time last year. In my defense, becoming an adult with all of these new responsibilities has really been cutting into my reading time. But I am learning to balance my time management better each and every day. (At least, I think so.)
Above is a list of all of my shelves. I simply categorize my books by the age range and genre. Now, I say simply, but this is surprisingly not simple. If a contemporary novel has romance, do I place it in the contemporary shelf or the romance shelf? It is a struggle that often takes quite a bit of contemplating.
It’s always very exciting to go through my shelves and see how much I have read. Luckily for me, I began reading for fun only three years, so I was able to keep track of my progress from the beginning. Therefore, I am only twenty-two books away from reaching two hundred books!
I would imagine this shouldn’t take too long considering my TBR (to-be-read) pile is a whopping one hundred and twenty-seven books and I’m getting back to reading a couple of novels in a week. It’s all really quite exciting and will be a major milestone of my bookish life. Celebrations are ahead.
For the first time in forever, fantasy is not consuming my life. As of this year, the most I have read is graphic novels, followed by standard fiction and contemporary. Then there’s fantasy.
Now this is shocking, especially since I’m writing a fantasy novel. But alas, my TBR has a mind of its own. Also, I have grown a soft spot for contemporaries in recent months? I don’t know why, but I have.
Nonetheless, I think we all know what my favorite genre still is: heartbreak.
(Note to self: do NOT search for heartbreak gifs. My chest has now been torn open.)
So for those of you who have a Goodreads account of their own, what is your reading goal for this year and how many have you read? Any favorites you would like to recommend? Be sure to comment down below and let me know!
In three months, I’ll be back with another update. And together, we can discuss our achievements and goals. Although, no matter what our Goodreads page is telling us (like your two books behind schedule), the point of reading is to simply have fun. To explore and learn about worlds beyond our own. To gain new perspectives and ideas. To just live.
